I’m not sure why she says she was unfortunate to see the film. Very poorly done. This might be a first ‘draft’ that she could watch to see how she could do better. Since she has so many problems with umms she might do better reading text.

well done, and a great overview of the film….
Saturday, 29. August 2009
It’s hard to get over you saying “umm” throughout the whole segment. I can’t take what you are saying seriously.

nationwide it’s more like 33% of births end up c sections.

Do you believe in circumcision?

Hey I dont mind your umms at all. I love your honesty and integrity and your openminded non-judgemental attitude which really comes accross in this clip. So please dont lose that in order to make sure you dont umm. Umms are ok!

when you look like her YOU CAN SAY WHATEVER YOU WANT

This film is great. I’d highly recommend it. Check out the trailer, esp. the scene where they ask the ob residents how many totally natural births they’ve seen. Stunned silence for about 10 seconds before the titter while they admit “almost none.”
It’s not funny. The dirty secret in childbirth: pain provides important hormones for the baby. Numbing the mom is worse for the baby. (Not knocking those who need it; just don’t misrepresent it as always perfectly safe; it isn’t.)

At the same time we don’t discipline bad doctors enough but let them keep practicing, and a lot of the reason malpractice insurance rates went up is b/c the inrsurance companies lost money IN THE STOCK MARKET.
The whole darn system is out of order!

OMG you guys! I had no idea! Normally I don’t do that; watch my other clips and see. But I hear you loud and clear, I’ll be sure to reign in the “umms & errrs”. Jeesh.

when i was in school, my speech teacher said “three ‘umms’ and you’re out!”
Thursday, 17. September 2009
um the um thing um I um wanted um to um talk um about um, is um um. ANNOYING
Saturday, 19. September 2009
No, I recently attended a birth there.

Yes! I meant to clarify: Manhattan and that would have been correct - but it’s helpful to include the boroughs as they certainly count too. I’m thinking that one of those that you mention closed recently, no?

Roosevelt Hospital does not have the only birthing center in NY. There is the Brooklyn Birthing Center and the Morritz Heights Birthing Center in the Bronx which are both freestanding birthing centers. Bellevue hospital also has an in hospital birthing center like Roosevelt Hospital.

The cost of malpractice insurance drove Elizabeth Seton birthing center out of business. And it was due to their malpractice insurance that I was disqualified from giving birth there at 7 months pregnant, even though medical experts found noting wrong with me and ok’d a birthing center birth.
Most homebirth midwives don’t carry malpractice insurance because while only going up 200% for them opposed to 400% for doctors, it takes up more than thhalf of their income to pay.

I think the comment may have been addressing the issue how expensive it is to be an obsterician, not the cost of their services? I know in the past 5 years malpractice insurance for obstetricians has gone up 400%. There are even cities in the US where you can no longer give a planned birth because doctors can no longer afford to practice.

it’s true… i watch some of the most well versed people that wouldn’t ever say “um” in a conversation, say um, um, uuummmm… through a whole show.
I actually think it makes the show more authentic and organic.

Yeah, yeah…um, you try talking unscripted for half an hour straight. har.
